when european modernism was hugely influenced by corbu’s concept of a house as ‘a machine for living in’ functionalism, despite of its influence on himself, barragan eventually became opposed to it and began strive for an ‘emotional/poetic architecture’. many still misinterpret/misquote him as minimalistic but if you look at his iconic bright colors and bad ass pinks, you know that’s not quite the case. those color coordinations are such complex and delicate innuendo of architectural bipolar. and his heavily religious yet rebellious punk mind subconsciously fascinated me, probably. which also makes sense that he’s also my dad’s favorite, as well. his direct challenging mind to its mainstream back then is what we ultimately need for humanity these days: “my house is my refuge, an emotional piece of architecture, not a cold piece of convenience.” bam. such an og savage diss. one of my fantasies is fulfilled #luisbarragan #plazamelchorocampo #parquemelchorocampo #38 #artiststudio #mexican #modernism #architecture #myhouseismyrefuge #badass #og #architectural #diss (at Plaza Melchor Ocampo)
